Title of the show: FORA
Fora (‘outside’ in several Latin languages) is a contemporary circus show where contortion becomes an act of political rebellion. Through a plexiglass structure, the artist Alice Rende merges enterology and escapology to symbolize the fight against stifling social norms. Inspired by the imagery of so-called “hysterical” women in the 19th century, the choreography reinterprets their movements as a form of resistance against oppression.
Thanks to the transparency of its device, the piece plays on effects of deformation and crushing, illustrating a quest for freedom where the body, even escaped, retains traces of its inner twists.
