Artistic Director, National Arts Festival – Makhanda, South Africa

Rucera Seethal is the Artistic Director of the National Arts Festival in Makhanda, South Africa. Previously in charge of performing arts programming at Pro Helvetia Johannesburg, she contributed to the development of regional residency programs across Southern Africa.

She has also served as Artistic Director of Chimurenga, a leading journal on arts and politics, and in 2022 joined the programming team of the Basel Theatre Festival.

Her work is deeply connected to themes of futurism, feminism, and cultural ecologies, and she frequently participates in juries, conferences, and international programs. She lives in Johannesburg.
